Canelo Alvarez – Jermell Charlo Undercard Update

Top heavyweight Frank “The Cuban Flash” Sanchez will headline the three-fight SHOWTIME PPV COUNTDOWN show as he prepares to fight Scott Alexander in a 10-round battle on Saturday, September 30. This will be a precursor to the Canelo Álvarez vs. Jermell Charlo SHOWTIME PPV event at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The event will be brought to fans by Canelo Promotions in collaboration with Premier Boxing Champions pay-per-view.

The event roster will also include former light heavyweight champ Oleksandr Gvozdyk going head-to-head with Brazil’s Isaac Rodrigues in an eight-round battle. Moreover, 2012 U.S. Olympian Terrell Gausha is set to fight KeAndrae Leatherwood in an eight-round middleweight contest. Fans can catch the live stream starting at 5:30 p.m. ET/2:30 p.m. PT on the SHOWTIME SPORTS YouTube channel and the SHOWTIME Boxing® Facebook page.

Guiding the show will be the talented MORNING KOMBAT live digital talk show hosts, Luke Thomas and Brian Campbell.

Following these fights, a four-fight pay-per-view event will start at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. This will be led by the important fight where Undisputed Super Middleweight World Champion Canelo Álvarez will defend his titles against Undisputed Junior Middleweight World Champion Jermell Charlo, marking a significant event for both reigning undisputed champions.

From Cuba, Sánchez, with a scorecard of (22-0, 15 KOs), currently receives training in California from Canelo Álvarez’s respected trainer, Eddy Reynoso. At 31, Sanchez made waves in the heavyweight division with a significant win in October 2021. He outperformed the then-unbeaten Efe Ajagba and secured a unanimous decision victory. His most recent victory was against Daniel Martz in a single round in April. He is set to fight the 34-year-old Alexander (17-5-2, 9 KOs), who made headlines with his knockout of Jaime Solorio in August 2022. Alexander, hailing from Los Angeles, has taken on several contenders, including Zhilei Zhang, Carlos Negron, and Travis Kauffman.

After securing a bronze for Ukraine in the 2012 Olympics, Gvozdyk (19-1, 15 KOs) went professional in 2014. He rose through the ranks and secured the WBC champion title by knocking out Adonis Stevenson in the 11th round. However, post losing his title to Artur Beterbiev, Gvozdyk claimed two victories in 2023. His next opponent is Rodrigues (28-4, 22 KOs) from Brazil, who lost to Richard Rivera in his last fight.

Terrell Gausha (23-3-1, 12 KOs), a 2012 U.S. Olympian, has consistently faced challenging opponents, with matches against former champions like Austin Trout and contenders like Erickson Lubin. Gausha, displaying increased power, recently bested Brandyn Lynch. He’s scheduled to fight KeAndrae Leatherwood next.

The event will also feature a 140-pound contest between Gabriel Valenzuela (27-3-1, 16 KOs) and Yeis Gabriel Solano (15-2, 10 KOs). Furthermore, Curmel Moton is set to open up his professional career against Ezequiel Flores (4-0, 3 KOs), while Justin Viloria (3-0, 3 KOs) prepares to fight Angel Barrera (4-2).

Lastly, we’ll see promising talents from Kazakhstan. Bek Nurmaganbet (10-0, 8 KOs) is set to fight Abimbola Osundairo (5-0, 3 KOs), and Abilkhan Amankul (4-0, 4 KOs) will battle Joeshon James (7-0-1, 4 KOs).
