Conor McGregor Aims Nasty Jibe At Islam Makhachev After He Takes A Shot At Jon Jones: 'This Is What Happens When Cousins Have Sex…'

This weekend at UFC 294, the #2 and #3-ranked fighters on the pound-for-pound list will meet once again.

In the first fight between lightweight champion Islam Makhachev and 145-pound titleholder Alexander Volkanovski, the number one P4P status appeared to be on the line in addition to the 155-pound belt.

While Makhachev’s win didn’t actually net him top spot, it ultimately didn’t matter owing to the return Jon Jones, who claimed the vacant heavyweight belt and returned to the top of the ladder.

During his recent appearance at media day in Abu Dhabi, Makhachev spoke about what being a real champion is all about, firing a shot at Jones by stating that he doesn’t deserve the #1 place based on his recent victories.

“You know, this is what UFC champion have to do. Like real champ, if you’re real champion, you have to take this, take fight, doesn’t matter how many days, who it’s going to be. Not like your pound-for-pound champion when they give him Chael Sonnen. If you’re a real champion, you have to fight. 

“They put him number one, the number one guy right now, who he beat? Who he beat last five fight? We don’t have some name from top pound-for-pound rankings and I just want to say about the rankings, about all this things. This is bullsh*t and I’m not following anymore.”

McGregor Responds To Makhachev’s Comments On Jones

Whilst he didn’t necessarily come to defend Jones’ honor, Conor McGregor used Makhachev’s comments as an opportunity to fire back at the lightweight champion.

It’s no secret that the Irishman and Makhachev’s team don’t see eye-to-eye, to put it politely. McGregor’s highly tense feud with the former champion Khabib Nurmagomedov has carried on over to the new divisional kingpin, who Nurmagomedov is a close friend and coach to.

McGregor rarely holds back with his criticism, and the latest occasion was no different, as he targeted Makhachev for his comments about “Bones.”

“This guy is a gumbeen. This is what happens when cousins have sex and have a child together. This is the result.”McGregor’s schtick tends to be to post similar questionable statements before later deleting them. With that in mind, a screenshot of the remark is below…
