Conor McGregor Promises Nate Diaz Trilogy Regardless Of Jake Paul Result

Conor McGregor apparently isn’t a huge fan of the fact that Nate Diaz is taking on Jake Paul in a boxing match this weekend, but he does intend to face Diaz in their long-awaited trilogy fight whether or not he beats Paul.

Longtime fans will never forget McGregor’s meteoric rise to stardom when he joined the UFC in 2013. After knocking out José Aldo in 13 seconds to claim the featherweight title at UFC 194, the Irishman quickly set up a fight with Rafael dos Anjos to try and also win the lightweight belt.

The immediate bid to become a two-weight champion was the same method McGregor had used to make his name in Cage Warriors before joining the UFC. But when dos Anjos broke his foot it unexpectedly created one of the greatest rivalries in MMA history between “The Notorious” and Diaz.

McGregor Expresses Interest In Fighting Diaz For BMF Title

McGregor was submitted in his first meeting with Diaz before he took a majority decision in their immediate rematch, and now the 35-year-old has once again expressed interest in finally doing a third fight as Diaz prepares to make his boxing debut this weekend.

“Regardless of that nonsense match me and Nate will be completing the trilogy. I am going to go grab that bmf belt right quick for us to compete for it in the trilogy.”

“The Notorious” hasn’t entered the cage in more than two years after he broke his leg against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. A coaching role on the currently airing Season 31 of The Ultimate Fighter was supposed to help generate excitement for his return against opposing coach Michael Chandler.

McGregor’s ongoing absence from the USADA testing pool has kept a return fight from being booked, but after Justin Gaethje knocked out Poirier to claim the UFC’s BMF title at UFC 291, it looks as if the former two-division champion has lost interest in the Chandler matchup.

Combats sports fans know all too well that anything McGregor posts online needs to be taken with a grain of salt, but no doubt Diaz will now have to field some questions about a potential trilogy fight with “The Notorious” after he meets Paul in the boxing ring this Saturday.
