Alex Pereira became a two-weight world champion when he knocked out Jiri Prochazka at UFC 295.

His meteoric rise in the promotion could potentially see ‘Poatan’ in the UFC Hall of Fame one day. However, current Hall of Famer and someone who knows a thing or two about being a two-weight UFC champion, Daniel Cormier, feels he couldn’t have achieved what he has without Glover Teixiera in his corner.

Daniel Cormier Gushes Over Relationship Between Alex Pereira and Glover Teixeira

Following the final bell at UFC 295, the former two-weight UFC champion took to his YouTube channel to relay his thoughts.

He explained that while Pereira’s achievements inside of the octagon are unheard of – namely becoming a two-weight champion in just seven fights – the relationship between ‘Poatan’ and his mentor, former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, Glover Teixeira is even more special:

“This man has 11 MMA fights, seven UFC fights, and he’s won two belts. It’s unheard of…unheard of. You know what’s even more special to me? Watching Glover Teixeira react the way that he does when Alex Pereira does something special. He’s his mentor, Alex Pereira is his protege. There’s no jealousy, it’s all happiness, it’s all support, and I love the relationship between these two.”

When it comes to the controversial stoppage during Pereira’s TKO victory, Cormier initially disagreed with the referee’s call, but once Jiri Prochazka said he felt like he was about to go out, he had no complaints:

“Jiri Prochazka being the champion that he is was like ‘Yeah, I was out,’ so we were wrong. He’s the only guy that knows how he was feeling out there, would we have liked to have seen him able to take a little bit more damage?

“Absolutely, it’s a title fight, but I don’t have a problem with it. Dude will work his way back to a championship opportunity, it’s only a matter of time.”
