Derrick Lewis promised to come into UFC 291 looking trim, and “The Black Beast” delivered when he stepped onto the scale ahead of the event.
The 38-year-old has always been big even by the standards of the UFC’s heavyweight division, but during the media day for UFC 291 he claimed that fans would “see a six-pack on me this weekend” both at the weigh-ins and when he stepped into the cage.
The line was delivered in Lewis’ usual deadpan style and drew laughs from the media members in attendance, but the Texan made good on his promise before one of the most important fights of his career.

Derrick Lewis Will Try To Avoid Fourth-Straight Loss At UFC 291
Lewis is closing in on ten years on the UFC roster after he made his debut with the promotion in 2014, however he’s currently on the longest losing run of his fighting career.
“The Black Beast” is scheduled to meet Marcos Rogério de Lima on the prelims of this weekend’s UFC 291, and Lewis will try to snap a three-fight losing streak when he enters the cage with the Brazilian. The 38-year-old has been stopped in all three of those bouts, and his last victory was a first-round knockout against Chris Daukaus in 2021.

Lewis has challenged for UFC gold twice in his career but came up short both times, however he is in the promotion’s record books thanks to his 13 knockout victories. That record was recently matched by Matt Brown when he knocked out Court McGee, and there will probably be plenty of fans hoping that “The Black Beast” can reclaim sole possession of the record and snap his losing run by stopping de Lima in Salt Lake City.
The heavyweight bout between Lewis and de Lima is one of the standout fights of the UFC 291 prelims, but most of the focus leading up to the event has been around the fantastic main card headlined by the rematch between Justin Gaethje and Dustin Poirier.
