Devin Haney Labels Regis Prograis As A “one Trick Pony”

Devin Haney says Regis Prograis is a “one trick pony” who only has a left hook that he tried to knock everybody out with. That won’t work for him in their fight on December 9th on DAZN PPV at the Chase Center in San Francisco, California.

Devin feels that he’ll disarm Prograis’ left hook with his technical skills and wind up outboxing him to get the victory to become a two-division world champion in their Matchroom Boxing promoted event on December 9th.

Haney (30-0, 15 KOs) states that WBC light welterweight champion Prograis (29-1, 24 KOs) won’t be able to connect with any of his big power shots in their headliner. Devin does rate the Prograis as having excellent power, but he still doubts his ability to land.

Devin seems to have gained a lot of new fans, thanks to Shakur Stevenson’s latest boring fight against Edwin De Los Santos.

A lot of Shakur’s fans jumped ship and floated over Haney, seeing him as having a more entertaining style and liking him because of his courage.

Haney views Prograis as just having power

“I’m happy to be bringing this fight back home. Tickets are doing amazing. I couldn’t ask for a better camp,” said Devin Haney to Fighthype, discussing his preparation for his fight in two weeks against Regis Prograis on December 9th.

It would be a big blow to Prograis’s career if he loses this fight because his chances of winning another belt at 140 are slim, given his advanced age.

He has no skills. We all know he’s a one-trick pony,” said Haney about Prograis. “He wants to go try and land a big left hand and knock you out. That won’t work. I’ll go in there and show him that skills pay the bills. He has nothing but power,” said Haney.

Prograis will need to do a lot to prove Haney wrong on December 9th because there are a lot of boxing fans who agree with him after watching him struggle to beat Danielito Zorrilla last June in New Orleans.

For Regis to win this fight, he will need to cut off the ring on Haney and not let him clinch all night long without paying the price.

Cutting off the ring would seem to be the most important thing that Prograis needs to focus on. If he can’t force Haney to mix it up with him, he’s going to lose for sure.

Devin could move up to 147

“Now, it just makes for me to go in on December 9th and put everything that we’ve been working on to work,” said Haney. “147 is the next weight class up. So that weight class is an interest. Not only Keith Thurman, but other guys as well. It all starts with me being victorious on December 9th.”

If Haney does move up to 147, he needs to steer clear of IBF welterweight champion Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis because that could be a massive problem for him.

Facing the 35-year-old Keith ‘One Time’ Thurman is a logical move for Haney because he’s an easy mark due to his age. Thurman has been out of the ring for almost two years now, and he likely won’t be at the same level he was last year in his comeback fight against Mario Barrio.

“Once I’m victorious, I can tell you who I want next or who I have my eyes on,” said Haney. “Of course, Teofimo is great for boxing and is a fight that can be made, but like I said. It all starts with December 9th. I’ve got to be victorious. Once I’m victorious, I can tell you.”

WBO light welterweight champion Teofimo Lopez has Ryan Garcia as another potential opponent for his next fight in February.

“He’s a gigolo. We all understand that,” said Haney about Prograis’ strength & conditioning coach, Evins Tobler. “He’s a male stripper. He would try to train me and look at my muscles. Brother, go ahead. Never in life.”

That’s cold of Haney talking about Tobler being a former stripper. Why bring that up? Haney should be focusing on the things that Tobler said about him being chinny.

“No, I never knew who he was. I’m excited for this fight; I’m motivated for this fight,” said Haney.
