Eddie Hearn Says Canelo “too Big” For Crawford At 168

By Allan Fox: Eddie Hearn feels that Canelo Alvarez is just “too big” for Terence Crawford at 168, and he favors him to win if that hypothetical fight occurs.

Like many, Hearn questions whether a fight between Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs) and the superstar Canelo will take place. Too many obstacles stand in the way of it happening, and with Crawford wanting to retire three fights, there isn’t enough time to clear the roadblocks.

Crawford seems to think he’s done enough during his 15-year professional career to jump the line at 168 to challenge Canelo for his undisputed championship without earning his shot the hard way by beating the top contenders.

In other words, Crawford wants a freebee/handout from Canelo. Bud wants special treatment to be given to him. He wants the red carpet treatment by the Mexican star based on his wins over 34-year-old Shawn Porter, Errol Spence, David Avanesyan, Jeff Horn & Jose Benavidez Jr.

Unfortunately, those empty wins aren’t good enough to meet with the king of the sport, Canelo. You have to do better than that.

For the Canelo-Crawford fight to have a realistic chance of happening, the 36-year-old Crawford would need to strengthen his hopelessly weak resume, which, as Canelo points out, only has one real name, Errol Spence, and that was a depleted version of that fighter.

Is Crawford willing to earn a Canelo fight?

It would take three solid years of Crawford fighting elite-level fighters for him to build a resume worthy enough for him to share the ring, and he’s not going to stick around long enough in the sport to accomplish that.

Assuming Crawford did choose to build up his weak resume, he would need to beat  these guys:

– Dmitry Bivol– Jaron ‘Boots’ EEnnis– David Benavidez– David Morrell– Demetrius Andrade– Artur Beterbiev– Diego Pacheco– Jermell Charlo

“I do think Canelo Alvarez is too big for Terence Crawford, as good as Terence Crawford is. In my opinion, you will never see Canelo come under 168 in a fight. I don’t think he wants to do that. 168 is still a little bit, not tough, but it’s enough,” said Eddie Hearn to the DAZN Boxing Show about a fight between Canelo Alvarez & Terence Crawford.

“So I don’t think you see Crawford come up to 168, and I think if he does, I don’t think he beats Canelo. So I’m not sure whether that fight happens, but if it does, two great fighters and I’ll favor Alvarez.”

“No, I don’t think so,” said Hearn when asked if Errol Spence has a chance against Crawford in the rematch at 154. “I think that was a taxing fight for Errol Spence. There are starting to be a few too many miles on the clock for Errol Spence. That kind of fight, like last time, would take some extra miles off the tank.”
