Errol Spence: “Crawford Needs To Thank Me For Making This Happen”

By Brian Webber: Errol Spence Jr says Terence Crawford should thank him for making the fight happen on Saturday night because he was the one that gave in on different deal points in the negotiations to make this match-up a reality.

IBF, WBA & WBC welterweight champion Spence (28-0, 22 KOs) is ready to beat WBO champ Crawford (39-0, 30 KOs) to send him back to the contender ranks, where life is harsh, especially with killer sharks like Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis constantly on the hunt, looking for a fresh meal.

“Definitely. It’s beautiful to have people come out supporting us. It’s huge, and not it’s time for me to put on a big show come Saturday night,” said Errol Spence Jr after weighing in on Friday for his fight against Terrence Crawford.

“What do you say to Terrence up there?” said Arieel Helwani of TNT Sports Boxing.

“I told him that he needs to thank me for making this s**t happen,” said Spence. “Of course, I made it happen. I gave more money. We had a coin toss, and my name was on the front.

“It’s Spence-Crawford. It ain’t Crawford-Spence. So why do I got to do a coin toss?”

“I don’t know. I don’t make those calls. Do you think this is more of pro-Crawford crowd or pro-Spence crowd?” said Helwani.

“You let them decide,” said Spence about the crowd.

“I think it’s 50-50, like the fight. How do you win tomorrow night? What do you have to do to give him his first loss?” said Helwani.

“Be me,” said Spence.

“Show some love to Errol Spence Jr, everyone. It’s going down tomorrow night,” said Helwani.

“It was unbelievable. When Terence came out, I don’t know if I’ve ever seen that much emotion from Terence,” said Helwani. “He was unbelievable and just radiating energy. I was like, ‘Wow, Terence has finally arrived.’ This is the moment that he’s been talking about for five or six years. Then Errol’s energy and the crowd were incredible.

“It was so heated up there for a weigh-in. Not to compare it because it was different, but Tank-Garcia was the other big fight this year so far was nothing like this vibe. I know that was outside.

“This was inside, so it was a little more contained, but that was incredible. It was one of the best boxing weigh-ins that I’ve ever witnessed. I’m on cloud nine right now,” said Helwani about today’s Spence vs. Crawford weigh-in.
