Floyd Mayweather Jr. Hypes Up Ryan Garcia Vs. Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero Fight

Floyd Mayweather Jr. took to social media to alert fans to a fight coming soon between Ryan Garcia and WBA light welterweight champion Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero, calling it “One of the most anticipated fights this year.

Ryan (24-1, 20 KOs) recently switched directions on fighting Devin Haney for his WBC belt, choosing to fight Rolly Romero for his WBA title. If the fight does happen, it’ll be interesting to see what the PPV price will be and if it brings in a lot of buys.

PPV Prospects: A Million-Dollar Question

Ryan will be able to call the shots against anyone in the 140-lb division if he wins, and the fight brings in a ton of PPV buys like his clash against Gervonta Davis did last year. That event brought in over one million buys, and it’s unclear if that was due to Ryan.

Romero isn’t anywhere near as popular as Tank Davis, so Ryan won’t be able to count on him as much to help market the fight. Rolly was entertaining during the press conferences for his fight with Tank Davis, but that was about it.

During interviews, he seemed disinterested, irritable, and could not stay present in the conversation. He always looking around, appearing distracted. If Rolly acts the same way, he will be a dead weight for Ryan and will be of no help in promoting the event. Hopefully, Mayweather can help promote the fight by giving interviews to take up the slack.

Mayweather didn’t say anything about Rolly’s WBA’s mandatory Ismael Barroso, who is next in line to challenge Romero for his title after his first-round knockout win over Ohara Davies.

Barroso captured both the interim WBA title title and the mandatory slot with that win. So, if the Ryan Garcia vs. Rolly Romero fight is going to take place, they’re going to pay Barroso a step aside.

Mayweather Hype

Floyd Mayweather Jr. on social media, hyping the still-yet-to-be-signed mega-fight Ryan Garcia vs. Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero for 2024 with this Instagram post: “@ kingryan Vs. @ replies One of the most anticipated fights this year. I guarantee this will be action-packed. This one right here is bombs away! @ mayweatherpromotions.”
