Footage Emerges Of Chris Curtis Trying To Spar Ian Machado Garry With A 'Separated Rib'

Ian Machado Garry had to save Chris Curtis from his own toughness after he separated a rib during a recent sparring session the two were having. 

“The Future” recently posted a clip of the two getting some rounds in inside the cage, but immediately after Garry landed a combination Curtis put his hands down and walked off holding his side.

Curtis quickly indicated that he’d separated a rib during the previous exchange, but after taking a moment to catch his breath “The Action Man” decided he wanted to carry on with the sparring session.

As admirable as Curtis’ attempt to tough out his injury was, Garry was having absolutely none of it and eventually succeeded in convincing the middleweight contender that he shouldn’t jeopardize his health when he’s only six weeks out from a scheduled fight.

Ian Machado Garry And Chris Curtis Both Preparing For Big Matchups 

Garry’s decision to make Curtis tend to his injury was certainly admirable, especially considering the Irishman is less than two weeks away from his own fight and could have just chosen to prioritize his own preparation rather than have his sparring partner take a rest.

The unbeaten welterweight has stormed up the rankings since joining the UFC in 2021, and he’s set for the biggest test of his career when he meets #8-ranked Geoff Neal on the main card of UFC 292 in Boston.

“The Future” has already generated quite a bit of hype around that matchup after he appeared in public wearing a shirt that had Neal’s mugshot on it, although Garry did recently attempt to take on a higher-ranked opponent when he offered to meet Stephen “Wonderbody” Thompson on short notice at UFC 291.

Curtis is set to meet Anthony Hernandez in a middleweight bout in September, and that matchup figures to be an important test for the 36-year-old considering the recent run of difficulty he’s experienced. “The Action Man” quickly won three fights in a row after joining the UFC, but since then he’s only won once out of four appearances and saw his most recent outing end in a No Contest due to an accidental clash of heads.
