In just seven fights, Tom Aspinall has made a big impact on the UFC’s heavyweight division by announcing himself as one of the top contenders.

At just 30 years old, the Brit has secured five performance of the night bonuses to go with his wins, with his one setback being due to the freak injury he suffered against Curtis Blaydes last year.

This weekend at UFC 295, he gets to turn the ‘future heavyweight champion’ hype into reality by facing Sergei Pavlovich for the interim title at Madison Square Garden.

A lot has been made about the speed and movement of Aspinall who not only finishes opponents in quick fashion but often does it whilst taking no significant damage.

With his precision and slickness on the feet, it’s no surprise that the Brit has made a fan out of “The Last Stylebender”.

Israel Adesanya Points To Footwork And Fight IQ As The Two Reasons He Can’t Stop Watching Tom Aspinall In The UFC

In his card preview for UFC 295, Israel Adesanya spoke about why he is such a big fan of watching Aspinall compete inside the Octagon.

The former middleweight champion is a keen admirer of watching the title challenger at work, crediting both his striking speed and his mind as the two attributes that make him so interesting to watch.

“First off, hand speed. F*ck*ng hell. I’ve never seen [anything like it]… I’ve watched this over and over again like when I see his fights, I’ll just replay like a combo and I’m just like what the f*ck. Like the way, even faster than some lightweights, he’s a beast, bro.

“Like I said, hand speed first of all but then also, fight IQ. I want to see him versus Ciryl Gane to be honest. Styles make fights and that would be a f*ck*ng amazing fight. I know it would because they have that nice footwork, that ballerina footwork.”

The footwork that Adesanya is such a big fan of will be crucial in this next contest against the Russian powerhouse Pavlovich.

This weekend, “The Last Stylebender” believes that England will see another world champion crowned when Aspinall brings an end to his opponent’s terrifying KO streak.

“Official pick, I’m going to go Aspinall, late stoppage or late finish.”
