Jake Paul Shares Criteria For ‘Perfect’ MMA Debut Opponent
In a recent interview with The MMA Hour, Paul explained what he wants in his first MMA fight, and reaffirmed his interest in running it back with Diaz in the cage.
“It has to be a big name, but at the same time it has to be a fight where I think it’s 50/50,” Paul shared. “Nate Diaz is the perfect person for that. I genuinely, wholeheartedly know that I can beat him, but I also know it’s going to be a challenge.
“We want to make an MMA fight happen quickly. The opponent has to make a ton of sense…I’d have to really, really, really work for it, but that’s what excites me is going into these fights with it being a 50/50 chance of an outcome.”
A timeframe for Paul’s first MMA fight hasn’t been discussed, but he could potentially turn his attention towards MMA following the August fight. He’s also hinted at a rematch with Tommy Fury, who handed him his first career defeat earlier this year.
Paul wants to a take a similar approach to MMA as he has in boxing, and garner the attention of the sport by facing top-tier opponents.
