Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz is perplexed by how his UFC 291 loss to Alex Pereira was scored.
The 40-year-old Blachowicz lost by split decision to the light heavyweight debutee Pereira in the UFC 291 co-main event. It was a back-and-forth fight from start to finish; with Pereira winning two rounds on two of the judges’ scorecards.
It was another disappointing setback for Blachowicz, who was looking to get back on track following a draw against Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 282 last December.
Blachowicz got off to a dominant start against Pereira but faded in all facets of the fight as the action went on. Pereira was able to limit damage during Blachowicz’s scrambles and outpoint his way to a decision victory.
Blachowicz feels he deserved the win and regrets putting the fight in the judges’ hands.

In a recent tweet, Blachowicz spoke out on his performance at UFC 291.

“Bunch of thieves, they robbed me,” Blachowicz tweeted. “Anyway, thank you all for your support.
I’ll be back.”
Blachowicz has failed to recapture his championship-level magic since a title loss to Glover Teixeira at UFC 267. He defeated Aleksandar Rakić in his last victory in May 2022 but has now gone winless in three of his last four outings.
Blachowicz was once considered one of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the world after recent victories over the likes of Israel Adesanya and Dominick Reyes.
Despite this setback, he doesn’t appear to be considering retirement and will look to bounce back in his next fight. A win in his next UFC appearance is paramount amidst the crowded light heavyweight title picture.
