Munguía Vs. Ryder: Freddie Roach Predicts Knockout And A New Jaime

Trainer Freddie Roach says he’s prepared every part of Jaime Munguia’s game for his fight against John Ryder, believing he’s improved from his last performance and will do what Canelo Alvarez couldn’t by knocking him out on January 27th.

Roach is Munguia’s new trainer, and he’s really high on him, believing he’ll dominate the 35-year-old Ryder, who is coming off a one-sided twelve-round unanimous decision loss to Canelo Alvarez last May in Mexico.

If the experienced coach gets his way, we’ll see Munguia facing Canelo next May for the undisputed championship in Las Vegas.

That way, if Munguia beats Canelo, Roach can crow about it and would likely get an avalanche of talented fighters coming to his Wildcard Gym in Los Angeles, wanting to be trained by him, thinking he can transform him the way he did with Jaime.

Going for the Early Finish

“I’ve studied a lot of tapes. He’s a good fighter, yes, but he’s not a complete fighter like my fighter,” said trainer Freddie Roach to K.O. Artist Sports about John Ryder not being as talented as Jaime Munguia.

“I think we will knock him out inside eight rounds,” Roach continued, predicting a stoppage win for Munguia. “His head movement, combinations, his footwork,” said Freddie, why he believes Jaime will do what Canelo Alvarez couldn’t by stopping Ryder.

Roach says that Munguia’s offense is his defense, which is his way of admitting that he’s still as easy to hit as ever.

Not Just Power, But Precision

“We’re putting everything together. We’re not just going with one thing going that way,” said Roach. “We’re more of a complete fighter now than ever. I know we have to get better than last time [against Sergiy Derevyanchenko], and that’s what we’re going for.

“We’re improving on every aspect of the game. From combinations to footwork, he’s [Munguia] getting better and better as we go. People who say he doesn’t have a good defense, how about a good offense? Isn’t that a good defense? The way I look at it, yes, it does.

“We communicate well together,” Roach said about Munguia. “I don’t know a lot of Spanish, but he knows a lot more than me,” said Roach.
