Rodtang Out, Superlek In vs. Takeru At ONE 165
ONE 165 has a new main event. Rodtang Jitmuangnon has withdrawn from his super-fight against Takeru Segawa. Instead of a super fight, fans inside the Ariake Arena in Tokyo, Japan, will get a title fight on Sunday, January 28, ONE Championship Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong announced on Friday.
ONE Flyweight Kickboxing World Champion Superlek Kiatmoo9 will step up and put his title on the line against the Japanese star. The Thai athlete was initially slated to battle Elias Mahmoudi at ONE Fight Night 18, but the opportunity to face Takeru was too good to pass up. Superlek brings a new dynamic to the matchup.
Rodtang is known for his all-out aggression. While Superlek can push the pace at will himself, the Thai athlete utilizes a more technical approach. Takeru will need to adjust to the new matchup and bring his A-game.
Superlek is also enjoying a 10-bout winning streak in kickboxing and Muay Thai. In his most recent performance, Superlek edged Rodtang in the biggest Muay Thai battle in the sport’s history. Momentum is on the champion’s side.
Takeru’s promotional debut has been highly anticipated. The new matchup adds more spice to his first bout, with the title up for grabs. Superlek vs. Takeru may be the best flyweight matchup of the entire year.
The new ONE 165 main event adds a new element to the division’s landscape in 2024. All challengers, especially Rodtang, will be interested observers. The man who walks out of Ariake Arena with the gold will be unquestionably the best flyweight striker on the planet.
ONE 165 airs live on Sunday, January 28, via global pay-per-view on watch.onefc.com. The event emanates from Ariake Arena in Tokyo, Japan. Stay tuned at MMASucka.com for the latest updates.
