Subriel Matias Calls Out 140-Pound Elite, Declares Himself Top Dog

Subriel Matias posted on social media today, letting the elite 140-pounders know that he’s the top dog in the light welterweight division, the King.

Matias doesn’t think much of WBC 140-lb champion Devin Haney, labeling him a “chicken,” which some fans would agree with. A better label would be a ‘calculated opportunist’ with how Haney carefully chooses his opposition, selecting George Kambosos Jr. over Shakur Stevenson at 135 and Regis Prograis over Matias at 140.

The IBF light welterweight champion Matias (20-1, 20 KOs) went through the top fighters, letting fans know how little he thought of them, and asked which of the fighters wanted to mix it up with him. Thus far, none of them.

No Chicken, No Jokers, Just Matias

  • Devin Haney
  • Ryan Garcia
  • Teofimo Lopez
  • Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero

“The best 140 is here. No Teofimo [Lopez]. He’s a p***y. No Ryan [Garcia]. Who is Ryan?” said Subriel Matias on social media, saying he’s the best fighter at light welterweight. No Haney. Chicken. No Rolly [Romero]. He’s a joker.

“So what happened? I’m here. Who wants to fight with me?” said Matias.

Calling WBA light welterweight champion Rolly Romero as a “A joker” is kind of funny, because that’s what a lot of fans see him as. He’s now viewed as the worst champion at 140 now that Regis Prograis has been beaten.

The only fighter on that list that has mentioned Matias’ name is WBO light welterweight champion Teofimo, but he said last Saturday night that he tried to fight him, but he had a hand injury.

Whether Teofimo was on the level with that comment is questionable because he stopped taking on risky opposition three years ago after his fight against Vasily Lomachenko.

Matias is coming off a fifth round knockout win over Shohjahon Ergashev. That was an impressive performance from Matias, who walked the previously unbeaten Ergashev down, punishing him with big shots until he quit.
