Trainer BoMac Wants Golovkin Or Benn For Eubank Jr’s Next Fight

By Sean Jones: Coach Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre says he wants former unified middleweight champion Gennadiy Golovkin or Conor Benn for Chris Eubank Jr’s next fight following his impressive tenth round technical knockout over Liam Smith last Saturday night at the AO Arena in Manchester.

Golovkin is a much different type of fighter than Eubank Jr., who is basically a domestic-level guy with a famous dad and hasn’t shown much ambition during his career to fight true top contenders at 160 or 168.

Eubank Jr. (33-3, 24 KOs) obviously has thoughts about the money & the notoriety he would receive in facing the inactive Golovkin (42-2-1, 37 KOs) in a mega-bout in the UK.

Golovkin would still be dangerous for a fighter like Eubank Jr., who is a low-level middleweight contender at best and will never be good enough to contend with the top-tier fighters at 154, 160, or 168.

As we saw last Saturday night, Eubank Jr. is a spoiler who grabs his opponents after every punch or whenever they get close enough to throw a shot.

Would Golovkin do well against Eubank Jr.? with him initiating nonstop clinches in each round? Unlike Liam Smith, who looked clueless last night, Golovkin is excellent after breaking free from a clinch and continuing to punch.

As such, it would be a lot more difficult for Eubank Jr. to implement holding as his central defensive strategy to defeat Golovkin. Eubank Jr. would need to devise a plan B for him to defeat Golovkin because grabbing him & wrestling all night would be a loser’s strategy.

Whether Eubank Jr. can get Golovkin to take the fight would come down to the money. If GGG is offered enough dough, he might take the bout with Eubank Jr. because it’s one thing he can win as long as he’s able to pull the trigger and figure out how to peel Chris off of him.

The 26-year-old Benn (21-0, 14 KOs) would be the easier fight to make, but it might need to wait until next year because he’s taking a tune-up this month on September 23rd.

“If that’s one thing he wants to accomplish, I’m always going to be behind a fighter if they want to try and accomplish their goals. That’s what they’re in boxing,” said coach Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre to Fight Hub TV, reacting to Chris Eubank Jr. fighting Gennadiy Golovkin next.

“If Gennadiy Golovkin can get off the couch and stay in the gym, he’s a dangerous fighter, dangerous as f**k. We’re up for the challenge,” BoMac continued about being interested in Eubank Jr. fighting GGG next.

“Well, tell Conor Benn to get his a** on the chopping block so we can go. It’s real simple.

“He’s already a good boxer. It just takes a few things in camp to make sure you bring it out. Everything we asked of him, he already knows how to do it and how to execute it,” said BoMac about Eubank Jr.
