Wild World of Fighting: Knife Pulled At Weigh-Ins, Floyd Mayweather's Tooth, & More

Wild World of Fighting: Knife Pulled At Weigh-Ins, Floyd Mayweather's Tooth, & More

Rise and shine, it’s time again for the Wild World of Fighting, the series that wins all of its fights by knockout.

This week, we see Alexander Volkanovski in a relatable position, a wild weigh-in moment, and more. Don’t forget to use your inhaler in between rounds, because it’s time for the Wild World of Fighting.

Floyd Mayweather’s Unique Gift

Regardless of your thoughts of him, it is hard to ignore the perfect record that Floyd Mayweather has as a boxer. Through 50 professional fights, and even a handful of exhibitions, the former champion has never tasted defeat.

However, something that comes as close as it gets to victory, was when Marcos Maidana not only went to a majority decision with Mayweather, but even knocked out a tooth on the champ. In the most combat sports appropriate way possible, Maidana was gifted the tooth, and apparently turned around and had it made into a necklace.

Sadly, the Wild World of Fighting did not exist in 2014, when this occured. That said, if it was around back then, this certainly would have made an appearance, making it deserving of highlighting now.

Taking A Ride In First Class

A core memory that will stick with me to the end of time, was the first time I got manhandled in training. I’ve never been particularly small, so for someone to ragdoll me without my consent was a feeling I will never forget.

The following video from Flo Wrestling caused flashbacks to that moment, as the same emotions were clearly captured on camera. This came during a wrestling match, where one fella was taken for a ride, before being slammed to the mat in disbelief.

The way the guy say on the mat after that moment says it all, as he realizes he is dealing with a different breed of wrestler. That is almost certainly a moment burned into his mind for life.

Alexander Volkanovski Gets Distracted

One of the things that makes the Wild World of Fighting so alluring, is the fact that anything can happen in an instant. Even when you think something is going one way, a single punch, or kick, or takedown can turn everything on its head.

UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski found himself on the unfortunate side of this on two different occasions while watching UFC 292. He was caught on camera looking away at the exact moment that not only Zhang Weili knocked down Amanda Lemos, but also when Sean O’Malley dropped Aljamain Sterling, en route to his TKO win.

This is such a relatable moment, if you have been around combat sports long enough. We’ve all had that moment of frustration, with Volkanovski having his head in his hands in frustration.

Pawzilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt

Gym pets are not as uncommon as you’d think, with all kinds of people bringing their dogs to train with them. There has even been times where dogs have been used as training partners, making for good drills of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu techniques.

Now there is a new player in the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu world, and he is quite the good boy. Bentley fell in love with grappling at first sight, and started rolling with a fellow gym-goer.

Clearly, Bentley is a natural talent, as evidenced by the way he quickly learned how to shrimp. Watch out Gordon Ryan, there’s a new dog in the pound.

Knife Pulled At Weigh-Ins

We here at the Wild World of Fighting love to see props brought to weigh-ins or walkouts. We even recently saw someone channel their inner Riddick and inject themselves with some special serum during his face off.

However, this recent example had people feeling mixed emotions about the antics on display. One fighter pulled out a prop knife when facing off with his opponent for a recent Jungle Fight event.

Some looked at this and thought it was an entertaining promise of the violence to come, while others felt this went too far and should not have happened. Your mileage may vary, but it certainly caused a buzz.

With that vaguely threatening note, we call an end to this week’s Wild World of Fighting. See you back next week, where there will be less knives (probably) and more wild clips.
